The 2016 Garner Symposium/ITxpo got off to a terrific start for the Simeio team. Gartner had just published its report on Critical Capabilities for IDaaS, Worldwide, which represents its current view of Identity and Access Management as a Service (IDaaS) offerings and vendors. The scores on the report were determined by evaluating each vendor against 11 critical capabilities as applied to three common use cases:

  • Workforce to SaaS
  • Business-to-consumer (B2C)
  • Traditional/legacy workforce

The result? (Drum roll, please…) Simeio received the highest score by Gartner in the traditional/legacy workforce IDaaS use case! This use case describes organizations that have a mix of legacy on-premise applications and cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications. In other words, it’s the most common use case for the vast majority of large organizations today. What an amazing start to the event!

We’re particularly excited because the rapid acceptance of IDaaS is a trend that is clearly here to stay. As always, the keynotes and sessions were on-point, insightful and compelling. Here are a handful of themes and expert remarks that stood out for us:

  • Identity and Security are foundational to Digital Transformation.
  • Steve Wenc, Gartner Advisor: “I recommend that everyone start their IAM initiative immediately in the cloud.”
  • The New Digital Platform consists of:
      Customers – engage
      Ecosystems – interact
      Things – sense
      Intelligence – decide
      IT Systems – enable
  • Peter Sondergard, SVP, Gartner: “Measure your investments in customer experience.”
  • Ecosystems create scale and enhance value
  • Daryl Plumber, VP, Gartner: “Diversity of thought guided by unity of purpose…will produce breakthrough results.”

It was on the exhibit floor, however, where we had the most fun. It’s where the rubber meets the road and where we got to spend quality time with our current and prospective clients. These conversations revealed many insights, but a recurring theme was particularly poignant: recruiting, training and retaining experienced and well-qualified identity and access management (IAM) experts continue to be significant challenges.

Several delegates emphasized the need to “refresh” their IAM environment. This perspective aligned nicely with a trend shared by a Gartner analyst, who pointed out that information security (InfoSec) leaders often express their desire to hit “re-start” with their IAM environments. Simeio’s customers already understand this: IAM needs to be managed as a formal, comprehensive program, and not as a solution that is deployed once and forgotten until there is an issue. This is how we ensure that our customers are #SimeioSafe!

We were thrilled to be part of the excitement at Gartner Symposium & ITxpo, billed as the “largest gathering of CIO’s in one place.” We look forward to re-connecting with many of the same experts and practitioners at Gartner’s IAM Summit, from November 29 through December 1. See you in Las Vegas!
